Solvex Syrup 100ml


Solvex contains a medicine called bromhexine.


This belongs to a group of medicines called mucolytics.


Solvex helps you breathe more easily when you have breathing problems such as bronchitis or sinusitis.


It works by making the mucus thinner so that you can get rid of it more easily.

Do not take Solvex if:


You are allergic (hypersensitive) to bromhexine

You are pregnant, might become pregnant or are breast-feeding

Precautions and warnings


Check with your doctor before taking this medicine if:


You have or have ever had a stomach ulcer


There have been reports of severe skin reactions associated with bromhexine hydrochloride.


If you develop a rash (including lesions of the mucous membranes such as the mouth, throat, nose, eyes, or genitals), stop using Solvex and contact your doctor immediately.

Other medicines and Solvex


Please tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines.


This includes medicines obtained without a prescription and herbal medicines.


This is because Solvex may affect the way some other medicines work.


Some other medicines may also affect the way Solvex works.


Tell your doctor or pharmacist in particular if you are taking any of the following:


Antibiotics such as ampicillin, amoxicillin, erythromycin or oxytetracycline


Pregnancy and breast-feeding


Do not take Solvex if you are pregnant, may become pregnant or are breast-feeding

Solvex contains propylene glycol


If your child is under 5 years of age, talk to your doctor before giving this medicine, especially if they are using other medicines that contain propylene glycol or alcohol.


If you have liver or kidney disease, do not take this medicine unless your doctor has told you to.


Solvex contains benzoic acid


Benzoic acid may increase jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) in newborn babies (up to 4 weeks of age).


Solvex contains aspartame


Aspartame is a source of phenylalanine. It may be harmful if you have phenylketonuria, a rare genetic disorder in which phenylalanine builds up because the body cannot get rid of it properly.


Solvex contains liquid sorbitol


Sorbitol may cause gastrointestinal upset and a mild laxative effect.

How to use this medicine


Take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.


You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.


Take this medicine by mouth only.


It can be taken with or without food.


To make sure you use the right amount, you can ask your pharmacist for a 5ml plastic spoon to use to measure your dose.

Fill the plastic spoon with 5ml.

Rinse the plastic spoon with water after use.


How much to take


Children 2 years and over to 5 years


The usual dose is 5ml twice a day.


Children 5 years and over to 12 years of age


The usual dose is 5ml four times a day.


Adults and children 12 years and over


The usual dose starts at 10ml three times a day.


However, you may be told to take up to 15ml four times a day.


Your doctor will tell you exactly how much to take.


If you think this medicine is not working well enough


If your medicine does not seem to be working for you, talk to your doctor as soon as possible.


Do not take extra Solvex unless your doctor tells you to.


If you take too much Solvex


If you take more of this medicine than you should,


Talk to your doctor or go to the hospital immediately. Take the medicine bottle with you even if it is empty and there is no Solvex left in it.


If you forget to take Solvex


If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember.

However, if it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose.

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.


Possible side effects


Like all medicines, bromhexine hydrochloride can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.


Stop taking bromhexine hydrochloride and see your doctor straight away if you notice any of the following serious side effects – you may need urgent medical treatment:


Serious allergic reactions which may cause swelling of your face or throat, wheezing or sudden difficulty breathing

Skin lesions such as severe blistering or peeling of your skin, mouth, throat, nose, eyes and genitals


If you notice any of the above, stop taking Solvex and see your doctor straight away.


Other side effects


Uncommon (affects less than 1 in 100 people)


Nausea or vomiting

Pain in the upper abdomen

Diarrhea


Rare (affects less than 1 in 1,000 people)


Hypersensitivity reactions

Skin rash

Hives


In addition, an increase in the flow of mucus secretion may be expected from taking Solvex.

How to store the medicine


Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Store below 30°C. Store in the original package.

Dispose of this medicine immediately after completing the prescribed dose.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the outer package. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

Do not use this medicine if you notice any obvious signs of damage
